2 Newly-build apartment blocks
On Johannes Vermeerstraat, old houses have made way for newly-built apartments. A total of 58 residential units are divided over two residential buildings: De Dame and De Dienstbode. These names are a direct reference to the paintings of the same name by the Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer. Inspired by the main elements in these paintings, the buildings are each designed in their own colours: blue and yellow.
Coloured joints
As local entrepreneurs, we helped think about the possibilities to realise the architect's wish for the use of colour. Both buildings were designed with the 'VTS Liverpool' brick. And yet a clear difference in colour can be seen in the end result. Marten: "De Dame features a yellow joint, whereas De Dienstbode has a blue one. These striking colours are clearly visible when you look at the buildings. An exceptional example of the impact of using coloured joints."
In an attempt to enhance the difference in colour, we produced the facing bricks with a false joint. This means that the bricks can be processed dimensionally stable by the masonry company and the colour of the joint is even more prominent. This concept has also been implemented in the ceilings of both buildings. Marten: "For this purpose, we produced the brick in two different sizes in the form of brick strips. You can see the striking colours of both buildings on all sides: the joints really come into their own here."
