New district

Groningen

64 houses and 58 apartments together form Het Ommeland. This energy-efficient fully electric residential area in Groningen boosts a robust and industrial appearance. Onix Architecten was looking for an orange-red brick, developed locally.

Regional bricks

Orange-red colour

Given the close and long-standing collaboration combined with their local character, the choice for Strating was easily made. Choosing the right brick was the next step. Pieter Jan: "We dig up our clay in Groningen. This is how we make the bricks with their typical orange-red colour that you simply won't find anywhere else. From our extensive collection, the choice fell on the Bourtange brick in Waal format. Partly engobed and reduced to orange-purple, this is exactly what the architect was looking for."

Brick strips and waal format

The houses in the district are part traditionally built with bricks and part prefabricated. That's why in addition to Waal-formatted bricks, we also produced brick strips. A sustainable, cost-saving but above all lightweight choice. It is THE solution for parts in the structure that could carry less weight.
