New district
The new housing project Ter Borch consists of 3 characteristic sub-neighbourhoods. For the homes in Rietwijk, located on the water, we developed a facing brick together with the architect that matches the name and atmosphere of the district.
Bricks that fit in with the environment
A specially developed structure gives the exterior wall its unique appearance: a pattern that continues horizontally. We created this structure using gears we made in-house. Architect Aron van Delft: "To enhance the horizontal effect, we fitted the bricks in the exterior wall without perpend joints. This is possible thanks to a small recess in the brick that is filled with mortar. You don't see this on the outside." We created the specific reed brown colour using a manganese slurry. The colour and structure thus fit in beautifully with its natural surroundings.
Aron van Delft: "The fact that we use raw materials from this province, real Groningen sea clay, is just wonderful. And because the Strating factory is so nearby, I visited the factory on a regular basis. Talking to each other and physically holding the bricks in your hands makes experimenting easier. Because the whole process is more than the production of a brick alone: it's a collaboration."
