Veendam

Two new school buildings for Winkler Prins were designed and built on behalf of the Municipality of Veendam. Together with the current building, the educational site forms a sustainable, future-proof learning and sports park. We have already completed several splendid projects with this architectural firm, 19 het atelier. And thanks to the desire to develop the new school building with local parties, it didn't take long to agree on another collaboration project.

Two new buildings

Fraternal twins.

The division of the exterior wall creates different Groningen 'buildings'. This becomes particularly evident thanks to the different brickwork patterns and roof shapes. The result: new buildings that are clearly related to each other. Marten: "Based on this design, we selected and designed suitable bricks together with the architect. We made a mix of Groningen red bricks, with a leading role for our Oudeschans brick. The differences between the sizes and structures, supplemented with brick scattering, together create an excellent embellishment in the exterior wall."

Customised bricks thanks to further development

Marten: "We've been coming up with ideas about what is technically possible from the very start of the project. Always with a focus on the primary question: how can we translate the architect's wishes into images?" This results in a lot of customisation. The approach is based on bricks from our customised collection. We have further developed this with minor adjustments in colour and structure. Until the final picture met the image the architect envisaged.
