More sustainable

Business operations

In order to continue producing facing bricks now and for future generations, it is important that we treat our environment and available raw materials in a responsible manner. That is why we are continuously looking for ways to make our business operations more sustainable. And this applies in all areas of our organisation.

Restwarmte Van Bakken Gevelstenen

Use of residual heat

In our kiln, we fire the facing bricks at more than 1,000 degrees. This produces a lot of residual heat. We reuse this heat during the drying process in our drying facility. This way we save energy. We continue to optimise this process using software. This allows us to compensate for peak moments and to distribute the available heat even more efficiently in the future.

Regionale Kleiwinning

Regional clay extraction

We make our facing bricks using Groningen sea clay, originating from the Dollard polders and the Hogeland region. These areas are located in the same province as our factory. This is how we eliminate superfluous transport movements. After excavation, we return the areas to their original state. We do this in collaboration with the Society for the Preservation of Nature in the Netherlands (Vereniging Natuurmonumenten). This way we contribute to the development of nature conservation areas and biodiversity in Groningen.

Recyclebare Verpakkingen Strating

Recyclable packaging

We unload the facing bricks onto pallets. For safety and stability we cover this with a cover. We like to use our stretch covers for this, because they are easy to pull around the load. This way no burner is required. Minimal printing means the packaging is recyclable. Do you want no waste at all on site? We can deliver the bricks as a HULO package: without pallet and cover.

Led verlichting Strating Gevelsteenmeesters

Step by step more sustainable

  • The factory is fully equipped with LED lighting.
  • We are preparing for the arrival of our electric forklift trucks. Our fleet is already fully hybrid.
  • We are currently testing the use of hydrogen kilns, together with other parties.
